Following the October Safety Day last year, Paul Goodfellow, manager of the Wells group in the Regional Technical Directorate (RTD), decided action was needed to bring all those within Shell and working with Shell onto the same safety page.
“One of the messages that came from our Safety meeting was that our contractors think we’ve overcomplicated what it means to work safely.” To simplify the message and its goals, Paul approached senior leaders in Shell and several of its contract companies about sending a unified message to employees of all companies across UA.
The response was amazing. Senior executives from Halliburton, Baker, BJ Services, Schlumberger, Weatherford, Mullen Oilfield, KSI, Franks Casing, MI Swaco and Nabors all jumped at the chance to create a common safety standard.
“We see these companies as our partners in the Goal Zero mission. We are working hard to break down the ‘us vs. them’ barrier to demonstrate our collective commitment to getting safety right,” said Steve Davis, HSE manager, RTD.
Steve says the video is just the beginning of good things to come from this newly formed Oil Industry Leaders for Safety Workgroup. “They have made a commitment to continue the dialogue, share best practices and find solutions to safety challenges. Goal Zero is not an initiative; it’s a value each of us believes in.”
